Frequently Asked Questions

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy is the practice of helping people with neurological and musculoskeletal impairments regain strength, function, mobility and reduce pain through the use of non-pharmacologic and non-surgical physical techniques.

These techniques may involve the use of various modalities (electrical stimulation, cold laser, ultrasound, hot or cold packs) soft tissue mobilization, neuromuscular re-training, joint mobilizations and strength training.

The goal of physical therapy is to improve your strength, flexibility, reduce your pain and restore normal movements.

Does insurance pay for Physical Therapy?

Most insurance companies will pay for Physical Therapy; however your health plan may require you to pay co-pay or a certain percentage of your bill.  For more details, you can call your insurance carrier.  Or, if you are coming in for treatment, as a courtesy we will verify your health plan benefits for you before your evaluation.

What will happen during my first visit?

You will be required to fill out a few forms (available on our website) giving us your medical history and consent for treatment. The Physical Therapist will perform a physical assessment of your movements, flexibility, strength and pain to determine your limitations. He will design an individual plan to improve your deficits.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring your medical insurance card, Driver license and any completed forms (forms downloaded from website).

What can I expect during treatment?

Your therapist may use various treatment techniques and modalities to assist with reducing your pain and restoring proper soft tissue mobility. You will also use exercise equipment to assist with regaining strength.

How long will each treatment last?

Your treatment can last between 45 – 60 minutes and is based upon your current condition.

What do I wear?

Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes. If you have a hip, knee, or foot problem, shorts will be helpful.

What will be expected of me?

In order to gain the greatest amount of recovery, it is very important to attend all your scheduled appointments. If unable to attend, please notify the office within 24 hours so that the schedule can be adjusted. Failure to comply with the 24 hour Cancellation Policy will result in a $45.00 fee charged to the patient.  Performing your individualized home program on a daily basis is also expected.

Will my Doctor know what you are doing?

We will stay in contact with your Physician by sending him your individualized treatment plan after your initial evaluation. Regular updates will be sent as needed.
